CHP, Lebec

2/9/14

Thanks, CHP. Thanks for keeping the highways safe, working a dangerous job, and answering our call with friendly service.

While driving through the valley on I-5N, just north of Lost Hills, we saw two little dogs on the freeway. Moments later, we saw their little furry friend laying dead near an over pass. The dogs wanted to help their friend but it was too late.

My husband and I love animals. We can't have pet dogs and didn't know how we could help but we couldn't get it out of our minds. We turned around at the next off-ramp a few miles up (twisselman exit) and drove back. A ranch with sheep was nearby and when we reached that landmark again we saw all 3 dogs.

Once facing North again we pulled a safe distance off the road. The littlest dog went through the fence separating the ranch property from the busy interstate, and after a few barks our direction, the second dog jumped over. The 3rd dog is jumping and running in doggy heaven.

CHP dispatch said they were sending someone right away, when we called and informed them that the two dogs would probably keep returning to the dangerous roadway to check on their friend. We felt better (a little bit anyhow) and then got back on the road.
