We stopped for gas on our way back to the east bay (it was so much cheaper here than Walnut Creek). I went inside to actually look for beans - random, right? (we also checked at Grocery Outlet across the street and they didn't have what we needed). The mart inside was strikingly clean, spacious, and organized.
Even the hot food looked good in here, AND they had a station of fresh toppings like jalapenos next to their taquito-looking things. My favorite!
For whatever reason, the station mart seemed noticeably nicer than most. However, the guy working in the corner didn't greet us, didn't really smile as we walked around, didn't offer help as we were obviously looking for the canned food aisle, and didn't respond when I said thanks as we walked out.
Friendliness goes a long way, no matter what youre selling. The particular employee I encountered was beyond less-than-friendly. Perhaps he was the least friendly person on earth, or perhaps it was just the worst day of his life; we'll never know.
