Bonanza Bar, Virginia City, NV

12/15/13
On a 3-day trip to Reno with my in-laws and a French club they're members of, we spent one afternoon in Virginia City. Our charter bus dropped us off and we walked up one side of the street and then back down the other. We were able to spend a couple of really fun hours, and our last stop was at Bonanza Bar.

Standing in front of the place a man gave us coupons: "Buy one drink, get one free", "$3 buys $4 in slot play", etc.  We played some of the 5-cent slots and they were the fun, old-school machines that pay you in nickels, rather than using a sheet of paper for every transaction.

It was a cool bar to walk around and had a great view out back. "Home of the 100 Mile View", they say.  I bought a bag of popcorn for a couple of dollars and then we ordered drinks. I had a Bloody Mary and husband had a mixed drink with well vodka. My drink was a small cup, but the price was right, and husband's was in an even tinier cup that yielded only a couple of sips. We couldn't figure out why they were different sizes, except that maybe his was the free one?

If you're in Virginia City, try to make it into every store and business. They're all unique and fun, and downtown isn't very big so it's a great way to spend a day. Definitely check out Bonanza!
