Historic Downtown Dunsmuir, Dunsmuir

6/1/14

We fell in love with Dunsmuir upon entering this cute little town, but were really disappointed when we found that nothing was open.  We saw a sign for the art walk  downtown and walked past several art galleries with dark windows.

The most noteworthy thing about Dunsmuir were the pretty buildings along the main road.  Even the Sherriff's office was adorable! A historic hotel, and the historic California theater, and paintings along the walls all cried out with small town cuteness, just wish we'd been able to go into any one of the businesses. It was like an abandoned town, on a Thursday afternoon. Even the streets were empty.

Make sure to try the water when youre here.  One mural reads "the best water on Earth" and I certainly agree that their public drinking fountains were spewing the coldest, freshest water I've ever tasted. Oddly, the fountains were just running with no on/off toggle. Dunsmuir must have an abundance of that fresh water! Too bad they didn't have an abundance of tourist stops to go with it!
