Sawyer Camp Trail at Crystal Springs Reservoir, San Mateo

1/12/14

Crystal Springs Reservoir is a beautiful spot to get in some outdoor exercise. I've never been a fan of gyms. I prefer being outside to keep my body and soul healthy and fit. My husband and I stopped here on a weekend drive down to Maverick's Beach. We made lots of stops on the way and so we didn't take the time to walk the entire way around the reservoir, but we did walk pretty far before we turned around!

There's no access to the water from the Sawyer Camp Trail. Some reservoirs allow swimming, fishing, boating, etc.; this is not one. So make sure you stay on the trail and just enjoy the views from the shore. The trail is a couple lanes wide so it's easy for pedestrians and bicyclists to share. We saw several children on bikes with their families and lots of runners. We walked together slowly, hand-in-hand.

My favorite moment was coming across a painter, who had set up a spot to paint the beauty before them. Whether or not you want to walk, run, bike, or sit and paint, this is a beautiful spot to enjoy the beautiful CA weather outdoors!

Parking on the street outside of the trail was kind of difficult. Perhaps we missed a parking lot somewhere? We ended up finding something on the street, though it was a pretty awkward spot to get into.
